Eat Less and Move More
A couple of years ago I was watching one of my favorite television shows, Saturday Night Live, and they had a skit that was
like an infomercial. The announcer was saying that they were going to present an amazing weight loss idea. He was all excited
and asked the man what his great idea was and the answer was “Eat less, move more” Is there any medications they needed
to purchase? “No, eat less, move more”. Any fancy exercise machinery to purchase? “No, eat less, move more”. That was it.
I thought, wow, that is pure genius! That is really all there is to each and every diet, there are just different versions.
I had tried to lose weight by exercising, I didn’t want to give up my tasty food. I tried to lose weight by cutting back on food,
because I got tired of exercising. I would lose a few pounds here and there but nothing you would notice. Then when I saw
that show, the proverbial light bulb went off. “Oh, “eat less, move more durrr” I started right away and planned on cutting b
ack on my food and increasing my exercise. It was Nov 2009 and I decided to purchase an early Christmas present for myself
and I got a Wii and a Wii Fit Plus. I made myself exercise at least four times a week and up to an hour each time. I was shocked
that the combination worked, I started dropping weight. It has been two and a half years and I have lost 84 pounds.
(Some of them more than once or twice) I am good with an exercise for about six months and then I need to find something
different. Right now I am still exercising four to five hours a week. I actually enjoy it now. I am doing for different things just
to shake it up a bit. I do Hip Hop Abs-(the Insanity guy does that one, Shaun T). I also do the Stability Ball workout, Walking it
off With George and The Crunch. I also walk a couple miles a day at work with co-workers. I just got back from a family reunion
so I need to get my eating healthy back in order. If you want to make a change in your eating and exercise, make those changes
slowly. Don’t go and be really strict with yourself and say you will NEVER eat ice cream again. Say you will have two or three
scoops on Saturday if you eat healthy all week long. Don’t exercise so much that you can’t walk the next day. It will make you
swear off of exercise. Slow and steady really does win the race. Believe that you can do anything that your desire. Believe tha
t one day in the near future, you will look so good in your skinny jeans, or at least a smaller pair of jeans. I still have about
twenty pounds to lose and I am hoping to be able to check in on this Blog and let people know how I am doing. I am hoping
you all will let me know how you are doing. Obviously there are a lot of us who need to lose weight, some more than others,
but we can support each other. Just knowing that someone else is going through what we are helps a lot. I used to text to my
cousin each day how much I weighed and vice versa. It was the first time that I was 100% honest with someone about how
much I weighed. We encouraged each other, especially when we gained. It was a nice support system. I would like to support
others as they take the journey of weight loss and get to the destination of a healther life.
